Variant Covers
Separate Line Items: Different stocks or interiors (even one page) are not considered variants and must be ordered as separate line items. This includes sketch covers, foils, etc.
Minimum Order Quantities:
- For true variants, submit the interior files once and each cover individually, labeled clearly.
- Indicate quantities of each variant in the notes section. Each variant must be ordered in a minimum of 10 copies.
- Specialty orders (e.g., foils) require a minimum of 25 copies, which can be split further (e.g., 10 and 15) if noted.
- When placing your order, you can upload variant cover files and signify the details in the notes section.
Please make sure to label the covers CLEARLY and indicate in the notes how many of each.
Saddle Stitch Binding
The saddle stitch is a popular book binding method used by publishers worldwide. Commercial publishers and booklet makers use this popular binding method to create magazines, pamphlets, brochures, catalogs, coloring books, and short comics.
What is Saddle Stitch Binding?
Saddle stitching uses two special book binding staples to secure the book together. Printers use a saddle stapler or stitching machine to bind loose pages together.
Two large staples are placed into the fold of the paper. The stapler pushes the staples through sheets of paper and clamps them shut. The sheets of paper are then folded, creating a saddle-stitched booklet.
Saddle-stitched books use several sheets of paper folded and printed on the front and back. For this reason, saddle stitching books must have page counts in multiples of 4. For example, a saddle stitch binding page count could be 28 pages, but not 26.
Saddle stitching is a good choice for 64 pages or shorter books. They are also perfect for shorter soft cover books like mini-comic books or comics series with short issues. An excellent example of saddle-stick comics is the original DC comics like Batman from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s.
Higher page counts, especially final page counts above 100 pages, are too difficult to staple together in this way. Instead, longer books may use square binding, which creates a flat, square spine.
How is Saddle Stitch Binding Different from Perfect Binding?
Saddle-stitched books differ from perfect binding in a few keyways. Instead of staples, perfecting binding uses glue to secure the pages together. In this book binding process, printed pages are grouped together in a book block. The book block is then glued to a cover with a spine.
Perfect binding is ideal for longer graphic novels, books with a large, finished size, and books that need a printable spine. Perfect binding is also known as square binding and can give a softcover book a more professional appearance; however, it is the more expensive book binding choice.
When to Use Saddle Stitch Binding
Saddle stitch is the best binding technique for shorter comic books between 8 and 64 pages. This is because it is generally limited to 16 sheets of paper. Including the covers and inside covers, 64 pages create a total count of 68 pages maximum for the book.

Beautiful Color!
This company is efficient and responsive to the needs of the publisher. We had gone with another printer in the past, and been pleased. But someone recommend we try Comix Well Spring - we did and were not disappointed. Although next time, I think I'll spring for the added cost of perfect bound - a 52 page comic is a lot to saddle stitch!

THE ACTUAL, SEMI-TRUE ADVENTURES OF MARK AND DEE: GENESIS OF A FANBOY BOOK I-II
I cannot say enough great things about how wonderful the GENESIS books look. Up to now, the best I could do was homeprint mini-comic copies which cost a small fortune in HP printheads, money that, had I not been on a tight deadline, would have been invested in another run of the books or moved forward with TASMTA: THE EARLY YEARS, which I'm currently colorizing for a near future printing. The folks I've already sold books to were surprised at the vibrant colors and clean prints. So it looks like you and I are going to be doing business in THE DOOLEYVERSE! (I can't believe that just came outta my mouth...)

Absolutely love the first printing of my comic, and the colors look great! When my first con was rapidly approaching and I hadn’t received my copies yet, I reached out to support and they were able to expedite the order and get it to me before my first show!

Tales Of The Extra-Normal #1 3rd printing
This is the 3rd printing of this comic that I've done with Comix Wellspring, can't say enough good things about the staff and the process. Helpful, personable, and friendly of you need to speak to a person. You probably won't need to though, their website is really easy to use. I used the cream colored paper time, gives my b&w art a very nice pseudo-aged patina. A neat new look and a color cover for printing #3! The color cover reproduced fantastically, which is great since this is my 1st one in color and I didn't know what to expect. This is why I keep printing with CWS!
